In Japan, most of us prepare very special food for the New Year's Eve and the following days. We call it OSECHI RYORI. The word "osechi" means "milestone" . January 1st is indeed a milestone in a year, isn't it? : ) Many years ago, when all the family and relatives got together for the New Year season, all the wives in the family cooked all these festive food by themselves.
